Stroke is becoming more and more common among younger people and is no longer just an issue for the elderly. Our team would like to share the causes of stroke in different age groups and the differences between them🧐.

To differentiate the causes of stroke by age, patients can be divided into those over 65👴🏻🧓🏻 and those under 65👦🏻👩🏻. For the older group of patients, the majority of the causes of stroke are ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke.

Ischemic stroke accounts for 80% of the causes of stroke, which may be due to blocked blood vessels, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, or some cardioembolic stroke (atrial fibrillation) that cause blood clots to accumulate in the heart and eventually migrate to the brain🧠

Hemorrhagic stroke accounts for 20% of the causes of stroke, and these patients often experience stroke symptoms due to burst blood vessels, atherosclerosis, and long-term hypertension, among other factors🩺

In contrast, younger patients often have structural or congenital problems, such as AVM (arteriovenous malformation) or vascular malformation, which increase their risk of sudden bleeding due to burst blood vessels.

In summary, the causes of stroke in older patients are likely to be due to bursts or blocked blood vessels, while younger patients may have structural or congenital problems.
